Summary of the role As a Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless flow of materials and services that support our manufacturing and service operations. You'll work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your insights and decisions will directly impact our supply chain performance and customer satisfaction. Role and Responsibilities * Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers that meet our standards for cost, quality, delivery, and reliability. * Manage purchasing and inventory for assigned commodities, ensuring optimal stock levels and cost efficiency. * Support commercial and contractual supply chain activities for materials and services related to manufacturing and service operations. * Procure raw materials, equipment, and services at the best value, ensuring timely delivery to the required locations. * Drive continuous improvement in total cost of ownership for assigned commodities and products. * Oversee purchasing and inventory for product groups aligned with MRP, Kanban, Sales Orders, or R&D needs. * Source new components and assemblies from both existing and new suppliers, interpreting engineering drawings and specifications. * Manage supplier relationships within your assigned product group, fostering collaboration and accountability. * Maintain regular supplier meetings and report key updates and issues to management. * Work closely with the Supply Chain Manager and Purchasing Supervisor to resolve supply chain issues affecting production. * Collaborate with R&D on new product introduction (NPI) projects to meet launch timelines. * Lead negotiations for long-term supply agreements to secure favorable terms. * Identify cost-saving opportunities, recommend solutions, and implement improvements. Skills and Qualifications * Degree-level education or equivalent, ideally with MCIPS qualification or working towards it, or relevant industry experience. * Minimum 5 years of experience in a Buyer role. * Proven experience with MRP-based procurement in a manufacturing environment. * Strong commercial acumen and contract negotiation skills. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook. Travel * The role requires occasional travel within the UK and internationally.
