SEN Teaching Assistant – Southampton
Prospero Teaching is looking for a dedicated and supportive SEN Teaching Assistant to work in schools across the Southampton area. This role involves helping children with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, social‑emotional difficulties, communication barriers, and general learning delays.
You’ll be providing a blend of 1:1 support, small‑group work, and in‑class assistance, helping pupils build confidence, regulate emotions, and engage positively with their learning. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are empathetic, patient, and passionate about helping children who need extra guidance.
We welcome applicants with backgrounds in care, support work, youth work, SEN settings, or graduates in psychology, education, criminology, counselling, or child development.
The Role:
1. Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEND
2. Assist pupils with lesson tasks, emotional regulation, and daily routines
3. Encourage independence, positive behaviour, and engagement
4. Help adapt classroom resources to suit individual needs
5. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and support staff
6. Promote a calm, stable, and inclusive learning environment
7. Support pupils with transitions between activities and lessons
Ideal Candidate:
8. Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
9. Calm, patient, and confident supporting pupils with varied needs
10. Strong communication skills and a natural ability to build rapport
11. Positive, reliable, and enthusiastic about supporting learning
12. Psychology, education, or child‑related graduates encouraged to apply
13. Keen to progress within SEN or a long‑term role supporting pupils

16. Start: ASAP
17. Hours: Full‑time, term‑time
18. Pay: ££ per hour
19. Contract: Flexible
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
20. Prior experience with children desirable
21. Understanding of basic SEND strategies beneficial
22. Safeguarding training can be provided
Eligibility:
23. Right to work in the UK
24. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
25. Two references required
