Are you ready to apply your degree to some of the most exciting and complex challenges in the nuclear industry? Join our Graduate Programme and become part of a dynamic team working across a range of nuclear decommissioning and radiation protection projects.
As a Graduate Characterisation Consultant in the Radiation Protection and Characterisation team, you’ll work alongside industry experts on high-impact projects supporting the characterisation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities, as well as providing radiation protection support to clients across the UK.
This role combines both desk-based and field-based work, and may involve:
1. Reviewing analytical data, developing conclusions, and making recommendations
2. Assisting in the production of documentation such as method statements, job reports, and risk assessments
3. Supporting the development of building history files
4. Developing sampling and analysis plans
5. Creating Data Quality Objectives (DQOs) and Data Quality Assessments (DQAs)
6. Providing advice to clients on sampling methods and requirements to meet project or regulatory criteria
7. Working closely with colleagues and clients, which may require regular travel to different sites
8. Training and opportunities to undertake health physics surveys (radiation and contamination)
9. Assisting with the maintenance and recording of health physics equipment and RPE/PPE

We are looking for candidates who:
Have completed an undergraduate or master’s degree level qualification in a relevant subject ( ( physics, chemistry, environmental science, geography, or related STEM discipline)) by summer 2026.
And with the following Key Skills & Attributes:
10. Strong Communication Skills: Ability to engage with scientists, engineers, and non-technical personnel clearly and confidently
11. Analytical Thinking: Comfortable working with data, identifying risks, and solving problems creatively
12. Team Collaborator: Ability to work effectively within a team but also independently
13. Organisation & Time Management: Capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
14. Initiative & Curiosity: Willing to take ownership, ask questions, and seek out opportunities to grow
15. Customer Focus: Understanding of consultancy and customer service; experience from any customer-facing role (including retail or hospitality) is valuable
16. Flexibility: Willingness to develop new skills and travel to client sites when required
17. Driving Licence: A valid driving licence is desirable

Our Graduate Programme assumes that participants are commencing their first professional role post-graduation. To qualify for our Graduate Programme, you must therefore have:
18. Completed your first degree no earlier than the summer of 2024
19. Not worked in a similar professional role since graduation
20. Achieved a minimum 2:2 in your first degree
Selection Process:
Step 1: Apply Online
Step 2: If successful, you will be invited to participate in an online assessment and an online virtual technical assessment.
Step 3: Successful candidates will be invited to a final face to face interview with our operations teams.
Step 4: Selected candidates will be offered an opportunity to join Amentum in September 2026 (and commence the Graduate Programme on 1st October 2026).
