Independent Society of Musicians – Legal Officer
The Independent Society of Musicians seeks a Legal Officer to support its legal team in delivering key services to members. The work is varied and interesting and includes helping musicians recover unpaid fees, understand third‑party contracts, and assisting the legal team with ongoing matters.
The award‑winning ISM is the dynamic, change‑making professional body representing musicians. With a current membership of over 11,000, the ISM is known for its legal support to its members across a range of issues from copyright and employment disputes to contracts. We are also known for our campaigning work on issues from equality to Brexit and AI which can cross over into legal services. We do not handle litigation and any disputes which proceed to this stage are handled by our legal insurance providers.
Responsibilities
* Support unpaid‑fee claims.
* Help musicians understand third‑party contracts.
* Assist the wider legal team with ongoing matters.
Qualifications
* Experience as a legal adviser or strong legal knowledge in contract, copyright or employment law.
* Proactive with strong problem‑solving skills.
* Good drafting and oral skills.
* Attention to detail and emotional intelligence.
