Overview
The Environment Agency is recruiting a Strategy Policy Specialist to join the Strategic Design and Transition Programme. The role examines the recommendations from the Independent Water Commission report for the water sector and its regulation, and considers options for the EA’s future shape and design. The objective is to develop a plan to protect and enhance the environment while supporting sustainable growth. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of the EA.
Responsibilities
* Support work to provide high quality, balanced and evidence-based advice to inform future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, including the option to create one single water regulator.
* Support engagement with colleagues across Government, within the EA and with other regulators to bring others along as we develop our thinking.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while operating in a fast-moving environment.
* Take a flexible approach and be willing to assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
* Be an active member of the Programme team, contributing to creating the conditions for a high performing, agile team that thrives under demand and ambiguity.
Team
You’ll be an essential part of a small, motivated team working directly with the Strategic Design and Transition Programme Director and Deputy Directors. The team is forming, and you can expect a friendly, engaging and rewarding environment that supports personal development.
Experience / Skills Required
* Experience of working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with economists and scientists.
* Ability to think and act strategically.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, including the ability to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice, often on short notice.
* Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
Additional information
