What will this role achieve?
The role plays a vital part in our fast-paced manufacturing operations team in Manchester! The Shift Engineering Technician will be a dynamic, motivated, and ambitious team player with a background in delivering change, driving performance, improvement, and developing new and improved maintenance strategies.
Engineering Technicians provide engineering resources in planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, refurbishment, installation, improvements, and modifications or upgrades to plant and services to maximize plant performance and maintain equipment to the required standard.
You will carry out all engineering work to high Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Hygiene standards and support the engineering function in moving to World Class standards in maintenance. You will also provide full Technical Engineering support to the production function under the leadership of the Area Engineering Managers and by working as part of a multi-functional team. You will understand and contribute to achieving the goals of the Factory by efficiently carrying out any assigned Engineering tasks.
What will be your key deliverables?
* Provide full Technical engineering support to production under the leadership of the Area Engineering Manager.
* Have specialist knowledge of biscuits and cake manufacturing equipment and associated bespoke control systems.
* Maintain high standards of Hygiene and Housekeeping.
* Decide on the best course of action for major breakdowns in conjunction with team managers and AEMs.
* Plan your time to achieve priority actions.
* Implement continuous improvement programs using Speedy Kaizen / MBR etc.
* Deliver consistent and improving plant reliability through effective management and monitoring of downtime, PPM conformance, engineering planning, use of SAP PM, and elements of the engineering budget.
* Liaise with third-party contractors when required, ensuring the Permit To Work (PTW) system is controlled effectively and safely.
Bring your experience
* This role is multiskilled & requires knowledge of mechanical engineering disciplines. There will also be a small requirement for electrical experience. Candidates should have gained experience within an FMCG manufacturing environment; however, engineers from other sectors are also welcome to apply.
* Ability to act efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment and make timely decisions is important. You should be proactive and solution-focused, with an aim to embed continuous improvement activities across the site.
* You need a proven engineering background through formal qualifications such as City & Guilds, NVQ level, or equivalent in mechanical and/or electrical subjects, along with practical working experience. You should be excellent at working within a team and autonomously when required, with confident communication skills to empower and mentor colleagues.
Additional crucial criteria for candidates:
* SAP PM experience.
Shift pattern: on/off, days and nights, hour shifts, AM/PM, including weekends as per the shift pattern.
