My client is a well‑established, multidisciplinary property consultancy with four offices across the Midlands. Their teams span planning, architecture, building surveying, valuation and business consultancy - all working together to help clients unlock the full potential of their land and property assets.
You’ll be joining a highly collaborative environment where surveyors, architects, engineers, planners and other specialists work side‑by‑side. The organisation is large enough to offer variety, progression and complex instructions, yet small enough to maintain a personal feel, genuine autonomy, and strong cross‑team relationships.
The Opportunity
This is a senior, strategic role suited to an experienced Building Surveyor who can provide leadership across commercial and residential portfolios. You’ll influence long‑term surveying strategy, guide the business through evolving regulations, and advise senior stakeholders on investment, risk and asset performance.
The successful candidate will bring technical excellence, commercial awareness and proven leadership capabilities - including experience growing teams, building brand presence and developing strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
* Develop and deliver long‑term building surveying strategies and initiatives.
* Identify new sector opportunities and contribute to wider business growth plans.
* Ensure full compliance across building regulations, health & safety and environmental standards.
* Benchmark services against industry best practice and embed continuous improvement.
* Take responsibility for both strategic planning and hands‑on technical delivery.
* Collaborate closely with the team to coordinate workloads and deliver expert client advice.
* Support, mentor and develop surveyors to strengthen team capability.
* Understand key financial drivers and shape team processes to maximise efficiency, productivity and profitability.
* Introduce innovative surveying approaches and digital tools (BIM, drones, data analytics).
* Deliver a wide range of professional services including:
o Dilapidations
o Technical due diligence / acquisition surveys
o Schedules of Condition
o Planned preventative maintenance
o Party wall matters
* Lead project‑based surveying work: specification writing, procurement, project management and contract administration.
Strategic Responsibilities
* Develop a deep understanding of the business model and how each service line integrates to create a unique client offering.
* Leverage your network, marketing experience and sector visibility to expand the Building Surveying presence across the Midlands.
* Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, boards and key stakeholders.
* Represent the business at industry events and actively grow your professional network.
Person Specification
* MRICS qualified Building Surveyor.
* Excellent leadership, coaching and people management skills.
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to turn market insight into strategy.
* In‑depth knowledge of building regulations, compliance and surveying legislation.
* Proven track record in both professional and project‑based surveying.
* Exceptional client care, communication and relationship‑building skills.
* Decisive, solutions‑focused and resilient under pressure.
* Adaptable, open to change and proactive in identifying improvements.
* Full UK driving licence (regular travel required).
