The Role
You’ll be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, managing budgets, and overseeing the commercial performance of civil engineering projects from tender through to final account. Working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, you’ll ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Produce cost estimates for proposed works and survey completed projects
*
Prepare forward work plans and labour forecasts
*
Attend client meetings and conduct site visits
*
Identify commercial risks and propose mitigation strategies
*
Support and oversee tender submissions alongside the Junior QS
*
Liaise with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and authorities
*
Manage day‑to‑day financial control of contracts, including final accounts
*
Monitor subcontractor performance, safety, progress, and material requirements
*
Identify and issue variations in line with contractual changes
*
Produce detailed cost and progress reports for clients
*
Work with the Project Co‑ordinator to project monthly financial figures
*
Maintain accurate financial data within Eque2 for all live projects
*
Compile cashflows and ensure smooth handover from tender to delivery
*
Keep project documentation and folders fully up to date
About You
*
3–5 years’ experience working on commercial tenders
*
Strong commercial awareness and analytical ability
*
Confident working on projects up to £5M
*
Excellent numeracy and financial management skills
*
Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
*
Proven experience in groundworks and civils
*
Full UK driving licence
*
Degree in Quantity Surveying or a construction‑related discipline
*
Knowledge of Microsoft Project (or similar) desirable
*
Experience with NEC or JCT contracts beneficial
