Teaching and Behaviour Support Assistant
Full-time or part-time opportunities available
We are a small, family-run independent school dedicated to supporting young people aged 11–16 with a range of special educational needs. Many of our students have Autism and/or ADHD alongside social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. As a result, our learners often experience high levels of anxiety and low self-esteem, and thrive in a nurturing, supportive environment.
A unique aspect of our school is our Equine Yard, home to around 40 horses. Students regularly engage with the horses through planned lessons and interventions, which form a vital part of our therapeutic approach. While prior horse experience isn't essential, all staff must be willing to support students in activities on the yard.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Teaching and Behaviour Support Assistant to join our growing team.
Key Responsibilities
* Support students in lessons, promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
* Provide assistance when students are dysregulated or unable to access the classroom.
* Aid teachers in delivering smooth, effective lessons.
* Support students during outdoor activities such as equine sessions, forestry and cooking.
* Uphold behaviour standards consistently across the school.
* Supervise students during break and lunch times, including helping to serve food.
* Contribute to maintaining tidy classrooms and site spaces.
* Assist with classroom preparation during school holidays.
* Occasionally support yard staff with tasks.
* Deliver planned interventions for individuals or small groups.
* Participate in training and professional development.
* Work flexibly and positively as part of a supportive team.
We take a flexible approach to support, with staff working across different lessons and interventions as needed, rather than being assigned to individual students.
Important Information
* Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm (students on site 8:45am–3:45pm).
* Contracts: 52 weeks with 28 days paid holiday (pro rata for part-time). Holidays must be taken during school breaks.
* Staff are required to wear a uniform (purchased via School Trends).
* Term times generally follow Derbyshire dates, with an additional 3 weeks' holiday due to our extended school day.
* Staff meetings: fortnightly after school.
* 6-month probation period.
* Private healthcare scheme available after probation.
* Ongoing CPD and training opportunities provided.
* Tiered pay structure based on experience and qualifications, with clear progression routes.
Recruitment Process
* All applicants require two references (including one from your most recent employer) and a DBS check (arranged by the school).
* Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, with the opportunity to tour the school and meet the team.
* Successful applicants will then complete a half-day trial to ensure a good fit before offers are made.
If you are compassionate, resilient, and eager to make a difference in the lives of young people, we'd love to hear from you.
