Pharmacy Technician – Governance and Controlled Drugs

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician passionate about medicines governance to join us as a key member of the Pharmacy Team at Ipswich Hospital.
You will support pharmacy and medicines governance across the organisation working closely with the Chief Pharmacist (Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer) to ensure the safe management of controlled drugs. Building strong relationships with key stakeholders within the organisation as a critical friend is essential. The role requires strong time‑management and prioritisation skills.
In addition, you will support robust oversight of pharmacy governance including regulatory compliance and undertake a clinical pharmacy role.
ESNEFT has recently implemented the EPIC electronic patient record system, which includes electronic prescribing and administration, and a pharmacy stock control system.
Main Duties
* A key member of the pharmacy department, supporting pharmacy and medicines governance.
* Assist the Trust Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer in the safe management of controlled drugs, ensuring compliance with licences and legislation trust‑wide.
* Support department management by maintaining pharmacy governance systems.
* Deliver medicines optimisation pharmacy service as a clinical pharmacy technician on hospital ward(s).

Person Specification
Experience
* Adequate experience working as a pharmacy technician within the hospital setting.
* Experience in audit.
* Experience of writing Standard Operating Procedures.
* Wide experience of being involved in multidisciplinary activity.
* Clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.
* Experience of using quality improvement methodology.
* Experience of project management.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
* GPhC registered pharmacy technician.
* Formal management/leadership training.
* Investigation training.
Knowledge
* Understanding of pharmacy organisational structure (local and national).
* Understanding of the relationship of the pharmacy department to the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Good pharmaceutical knowledge.
* Awareness of national standards relating to pharmacy practice.
* Awareness of pharmacy governance processes typical in the hospital setting.
* Understanding of the need for confidentiality at all times.
* Understanding of the structure of the modern NHS.
* Awareness of current national issues affecting pharmacy practice, especially relating to pharmacy and medicines governance.
* Controlled drug legislation.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
* Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis.
