This is a fixed term post for 6 months providing specialist MSK Outpatient physiotherapy to children and young people (CYP) in outpatient clinic settings. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner providing a specialist physiotherapy service to a designated caseload of children with a range of musculoskeletal issues and/or physical and mobility difficulties.
A significant proportion of these children will have English as an additional language (EAL). He/she will be expected to manage their own caseload across a number of clinic sites. He/she will be expected to work collaboratively with CYP, parents/carers and colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services in planning and delivery of services.
Main duties of the job
Providing specialist MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy services children and young people with a variety of MSK conditions within Harrow
Providing specialist advice, programmes and treatment plans to others regarding the management and care of CYP with MSK conditions
The post-holder may be expected to provide supervision of the work of band 5 physiotherapists and students.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own clinical practice.
To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies, using specialist knowledge, clinical reasoning skills and specialist manual assessment techniques to provide a clinical diagnosis.
To formulate and deliver (from a variety of options) specialised individual physiotherapy treatment programmes based on a sound knowledge of treatment skills underpinned by theoretical knowledge and experience.
To evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.
To formulate soundly reasoned clinical diagnoses and prognoses and make recommendations for the best course of intervention, developing short and long-term goals (negotiated with patient) leading to a comprehensive discharge plan.
To work in the community setting which may include periods of lone working with telephone support from a senior physiotherapist if required.
To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all equipment and appliances to be used by patients.

Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
Assessment, treatment and management of children
Standards of record keeping and reporting
Range of appropriate therapeutic interventions and equipment relevant to CYP
Awareness of the differences of a Paediatric versus adult caseload
Good written and spoken English
Excellent interpersonal skills: including observation, listening and empathy skills
Good organisational skills and to prioritise own workload.
Ability to communicate effectively with children and young people of all ages and abilities
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
Experience within NHS or similar industry of post graduate level of working in the following fields: orthopaedics, outpatients, respiratory, neurology, paediatrics
Assessment treatment and management of children
Writing clinical notes and reports
Managing own caseload
Experience of working and teaching other professionals / parents / carers
Working at part of an MDT
Experience of working with Paediatric MSK conditions
Desirable criteria
Ability to communicate effectively with children and young people of all ages and abilities
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Recognised Physiotherapy Degree Qualification and Registered Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP)
Health Care Professions Council – Licence to Practice
Evidence of CPD including attendance of post graduate short courses relevant to paediatric physiotherapy
