1. Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require:
* (a) if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* (b) if employed by a board on terms under which he/she is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school where required to work.
1. Exercise of particular duties
In accordance with directions from the principal or the board, a teacher shall perform specific duties reasonably assigned to him/her.
Main Responsibilities
1. Planning
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
* Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
* Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development, progress, and attainment.

* Promoting the progress and well-being of pupils;
* Providing advice and guidance on educational, social, and career matters;
* Making records and reports on pupils' personal and social needs;
* Communicating with parents and external bodies;
* Participating in relevant meetings.
2. Assessment/Reporting
Providing assessments, reports, and references related to pupils, ensuring confidentiality where necessary.
3. Staff Development
* Participating in staff development schemes;
* Reviewing and developing teaching methods and materials;
* Collaborating on course development and assessment strategies.
4. Discipline/Health and Safety
* Maintaining good order and discipline;
* Safeguarding pupils' health and safety;
* Participating in school meetings related to curriculum and organization.
5. Public Examinations
Preparing pupils for examinations, assessing and recording results, and supervising during exams.
6. Management Activities and Administration
* Contributing to staff recruitment and development;
* Managing or coordinating teachers and curriculum activities;
* Participating in administrative tasks and supervising support staff.
7. Working Hours
* Available for 195 days per year, with specific weekly hours and breaks as outlined;
8. Staff Cover
Supervising pupils in the absence of their teacher, within specified conditions.
This job description is subject to review and may include other duties appropriate to the grade. The post-holder is expected to promote equality and adhere to legislation as per Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998).
