The PR Manager in Europe is an experienced, results-driven, and creative professional joining a team that is propelling business results by promoting and protecting Illumina's reputation through external communications.
The successful candidate joins a team that is proactively building Illumina's image and awareness among customers, thought leaders, investors, employees, and the public through a strategic public relations programme.
The PR Manager is part of a global Communications team and will collaborate with company leaders as well as marketing, sales, and HR teams to develop stories and winning approaches that advance business priorities across external channels.
The PR Manager works with the company's public relations agency and partners closely with global and regional communications colleagues to achieve shared goals. The role will regularly engage with members of the media, developing relationships and advancing storylines, and will serve as the operational coordinator for the Europe PR team.

Responsibilities include:
1. Executing with excellence on objective-based assignments, including research projects, writing, material development, and copy editing.
2. Developing and executing strategic public relations plans to support company news and milestones, and measuring and reporting results.
3. Engaging with the media to secure opportunities, generate trade media coverage, place feature stories, and build relationships with journalists.
4. Collaborating with the global communications team to ensure cohesive messaging across channels.
5. Engaging with business leaders, marketing colleagues, customers, and stakeholders to identify and build newsworthy stories.
6. Serving as the operations coordinator for the PR function, including project tracking, editorial calendar maintenance, and media list management.
7. Building work plans, determining resources, and supporting employee communications as required.
8. Working on complex assignments across multiple time zones, requiring conceptual problem solving.
9. Demonstrating high business acumen, professional judgment, and a sense of urgency.
10. Leading collaborative efforts with stakeholders outside their area of expertise.
11. Communicating effectively and presenting results and recommendations.
12. Reporting to Sr. Director, Head of Communications, Europe.
Qualifications:
1. Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
2. Preferred experience in biotech, life sciences, or healthcare industries.
3. Strong writing skills, including press releases, pitches, op-eds, backgrounders, FAQs, and media tools.
4. Native-level proficiency in English and working proficiency in Spanish.
5. Operational mindset with database and project management skills.
6. Ability to identify, track, and report PR metrics.
7. Proactive communicator capable of managing multiple stakeholders, including C-Suite.
8. Attention to detail, collaboration, strategic thinking, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
