Building on your existing clinical leadership skills, you will play a key role in developing our clinical effectiveness agenda to ensure we deliver excellent, effective and innovative services for our patients and our staff. This role provides excellent developmental opportunities for an aspiring Chief Medical Officer and involves working with colleagues in the Medical and Nursing Directorates to drive clinical improvement.
Main duties
* Develop and regularly review a clinical effectiveness strategy for the Trust to inform clinical practice.
* Collaborate with colleagues in the Clinical Executive, Divisions, and LDUs to review and support the development of effective Clinical Networks that promote excellence in clinical practice and outcomes for service users and carers.
* Identify, advise on and promote excellent psychiatric practice throughout the Trust and with partner organisations.
* Nominate staff to represent the medical group of AWP on relevant local, regional or national committees.
* Work with the Medical Director and other Deputy Medical Director to create an enthusiastic and dynamic team.
* Work with partner organisations to influence pathway development of the Community Mental Health Framework.
* Chair governance groups: Clinical Audit and NICE Group; Mortality Group.
* Represent or deputise for the Chief Medical Officer as required and cross-cover with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Medical Professional Standards.
* Support and develop a strong network of medical leaders throughout the organisation to contribute to work at all levels and in all services.
* Collaborate with service managers to ensure the medical workforce is deployed effectively in teams to meet medical imperatives in support of clinical governance.

Person specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
* MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Desirable
* Relevant Higher Degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
Eligibility
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register
* Approved clinician status & Section 12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Experience
* Substantial clinical experience at Consultant level
* Significant leadership experience as a Consultant
* Strong clinical leadership reputation with involvement in medical management and leadership of clinical services
* Track record of promoting excellence in clinical practice
Personal skills
* Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
* Effective time management and prioritisation of clinical work
* Excellent written and oral communication skills for patients, carers and staff
Clinical skills
* Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems and manage crises
Knowledge
* Understanding of management skills required to function as a Consultant
Teaching
* Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching
* Understanding of teaching principles
Research and audit
* Experience or involvement in a research project and publication
* Experience of carrying out an audit project
Management
* Evidence of management/leadership skills training
