Hays are delighted to be working exclusively with a highly reputable and growing organisation based in Shrewsbury. Known for their strong values, supportive culture and long‑standing staff retention, this business is now seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their established finance team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave.

Your new role

As Accounts Assistant, you will play an important role within a well‑structured finance team, supporting the Finance Manager and wider department with day‑to‑day transactional duties. Your responsibilities will include:

Purchase Ledger
1. Processing high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and efficiently
2. Matching, batching and coding invoices in line withpany processes
3. Reconciling supplier statements and ensuring any discrepancies are resolved promptly
4. Managing supplier queries professionally and building strong relationships with external partners
5. Assisting with weekly and monthly payment runs to ensure timely settlement of accounts
Bank Reconciliation
6. Performing daily and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
7. Investigating and resolving reconciling items to maintain accurate financial records
Month-End Support
8. Assisting the team with month-end closing activities
9. Posting journals and preparing supporting documentation
10. Helping with reporting tasks as required to ensure deadlines are met
This is a varied and hands-on role that would suit someone who enjoys working in a busy and supportive finance function.

What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for a confident and experienced Accounts Assistant who can hit the ground running. You will have:
11. Previous experience in a similar finance or accounts support role
12. Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all work
13. Good IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel
14. Excellentmunication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
15. A proactive approach, willingness to learn and the ability to work well as part of a team
