Craigmillar Medical Group is a large teaching and training practice. We operate from a purpose-made building, currently have around 11 000+ patients registered with us and are fortunate to have a large and committed multidisciplinary team. This comprises a GP team of 7 partners, 5 salaried GPs, a retainer GP and 2 GPs-in-training; a health inequalities fellow. Our nursing team is comprised of, 3 practice nurses, 2 healthcare assistants and an ANP. We are lucky enough to have a mental health team of 2 mental health nurses, 2 practice pharmacists and a community link worker. There are also several visiting specialists to our practice serving the locality, such as learning disability, CAMHS and sexual health. Our district nursing, health-visiting and midwifery colleagues are all based with us in the building. We have ready access to a CTAC. Our reception team were retrained as care coordinators a number of years ago and have a key role in supporting patients to link patients in with the right person in the team.
We are passionate about teaching and learning and have regular undergraduate placements for medical students and other members of the MDT. We are a GP training practice too. We are always keen to support further professional training.
Our practice aims to provide good quality, holistic, flexible patient care, with an emphasis on continuity and realistic medicine within a mutually supportive team. Our nursing team is integral to these aims.
We have recently redesigned our chronic disease and recall systems and utilise the house of care model, making the process efficient, holistic and person-centred. The patients we care for have higher than average levels of early multimorbidity due to socio-economic deprivation, and our nursing team are critical to providing good quality care for our patients. Craigmillar Medical Group is one of Scotlands 'deep end' practices, serving a practice population with a strong community ethos in the context of high socio-economic deprivation. It can be challenging at times, but it is an immensely rewarding place to work. Our mission statement is: Craigmillar Medical Group will constantly strive to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and wider community. Our aim is to offer a caring, accessible, professional and friendly service, in partnership with our patients.
