Plant Hire Controller & Commercial Assistant – St Albans / Redbourn
Newstaff Employment is hiring an experienced Plant Hire Controller & Commercial Assistant to join a successful and growing plant hire business. This hybrid role (3–4 days remote, 1 day on-site in St Albans or Redbourn) is ideal for someone with strong organisational, customer service, and administration skills who enjoys managing fast-paced hire operations.
Location: St Albans / Redbourn (Hybrid: 3–4 days remote, weekly meet-up required)
Salary: £30, – £34, per annum + company pension + on-site parking
Working Hours: Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities
1. Coordinate the full hire cycle from initial enquiry to delivery, collection, and invoicing.
2. Process hire contracts, allocate equipment, and schedule machinery and transport.
3. Advise customers on suitable equipment and prepare accurate quotations.
4. Communicate with drivers, yard teams, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
5. Monitor fleet availability and maintain accurate records across hire systems.
6. Provide general commercial and administrative support to the wider team.
7. Handle customer enquiries professionally and efficiently.
Essential Skills & Experience
8. Minimum of one year’s experience in plant hire, construction, logistics, or a related field.
9. Strong administration and customer service background.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11. Highly organised with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
12. Confident IT user with MS Office skills; hiring management software experience is desirable.
13. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
