Band 6 Paediatric Emergency Department Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse – York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive and caring Band 6 Paediatric Emergency Department Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to be part of our experienced and established Paediatric Emergency team.
Responsibilities
* Play an essential role in the patient's journey between assessment in the Emergency Department and ongoing care and interventions through to the Children's Assessment Areas and Ward.
* Coordinate care of sick children between the Emergency Department and Paediatric areas, ensuring effective communication is always maintained.
* Assess patient care needs in the Emergency Department, commence treatment plans and navigate medical reviews, liaising with Paediatric areas and ensuring safe transfers.
* Act as a role model, promoting quality, evidence‑based practice, developing the Nursing Team in both the Emergency Department and Paediatric areas by ensuring effective management of the patient.
* Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care in a timely manner, triage patients and assess priority of their clinical presentation.
* Occasionally serve as Nurse in Charge of the Department during the shift, requiring attendance at wider trust meetings and events.
* Provide emergency care and treatment to patients requiring resuscitation.
* Work alongside the wider team to ensure efficient patient flow.
* Collaborate closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Be professionally accountable for all actions during the working shift.
* Engage fully with own training and developmental needs within the clinical environment.
* Supervise newly qualified nurses, junior nurses, student nurses and healthcare assistant nurses in the provision of patient care.
* Comply with Trust policies and procedures.
Required Experience
Experience as a Children's Nurse in a paediatric emergency environment, and competence at Band 6 level.
