Daniel Owen are proud to be representing a Local Council in the Bromley
area who are looking for a Building Control Surveyor to join their team on a contract basis.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain nationally required Registered Building Inspector (RBI) status with the Building Safety Regulator through continual assessment of personal competency, recording of professional experience, CPD activities and regular external validation through the BSCF examination process.
* Allocate work to staff (including temporary staff), supervise and provide advice and guidance on any problems arising and make such adjustments to their areas, in consultation with the Head of Building Control, as may be required
* Using high level of technical competency, interpret complex legislation and provide advice to other officers on the Regulations.
* Examine plans and assess details submitted under the Building Regulations, check for compliance with the requirements of those Regulations and allied legislation.
* Inform applicants in writing and prepare a schedule of amendments of the Building Regulations shown on the submitted plans and list any additional information that is required to determine compliance. Carry out any discussions that may subsequently prove necessary to ensure that the minimum standards set down in Building Regulations are met.
* Consult with the Fire Authority under the Fire Safety Order in respect of all relevant buildings and other sections where appropriate.
* Determine regularisation and reversion submissions and authorize the issuing of regularisation and completion certificates
* Provide advice and guidance to members of the public, surveyors, architects, and solicitors etc on all aspects of Building Regulations in a timely and appropriate manner.
* Investigate and deal with any reported dangerous structures within the Borough and bring to the attention of the Principal Building Control Surveyor reports on dangerous structures including recommendations for action.
* Mentor and assist in the training of less experienced staff.
* To investigate and respond to complaints
* To carry out investigations into unauthorised work and other breaches of building control legislation, identify and make recommendations of appropriate course of action.
* To assist the Head of Building Control in the general management of the Team/section and possess the ability to produce more complex reports.
Key Qualifications:
* Social Housing industry knowledge
* candidate is registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Registered Building Inspector
* NEBOSH
* Building Regulations and Approved Documents, The Building Act 1984, The London Building Acts, The Building Safety Act
* Safety At Sports Ground legislation and process
* Different detailed construction techniques
* Appreciation of structures and foundation design
* An understanding of the political considerations involved in working in a Local Authority
