Role Overview:
The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Additive Manufacturing Technician to support the full lifecycle of work requests—from initial receipt through production and final delivery. This role is critical in ensuring that all additive manufacturing (AM) activities are executed with a strong focus on quality, process control, and health & safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Work Request Management:
Receive, interpret, and manage assigned work requests, ensuring accurate documentation and timely progression through the production cycle.
Production Support:
Operate and maintain a range of additive manufacturing equipment (e.g. DMLS, MJF, FDM, MBJ), ensuring optimal machine performance and part quality.
Process Control & Quality Assurance:
Adhere to process controls, conduct in-process inspections, and ensure all outputs meet defined specifications and quality standards.
Post-Processing & Finishing:
Perform post-processing tasks such as support removal and surface finishing, adhering to best practices and safety protocols.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Maintain a safe working environment by following all MTC health and safety procedures, conducting risk assessments, and using appropriate PPE.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with engineers, project managers, and quality teams to ensure seamless workflow and continuous improvement.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of production activities, machine logs, and quality checks to support traceability and continuous improvement initiatives.
Continuous Improvement:
Actively contribute to the identification and implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities to resolve production issues and prevent recurrence.
Support the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
Engage in training and upskilling opportunities to stay current with emerging AM technologies and methodologies.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Hands-on experience with metal or polymer additive manufacturing technologies and equipment, preferably both.
Strong understanding of manufacturing process control and quality assurance principles.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files.
Familiarity with health and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable Qualifications:
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
Collaborative Culture at the MTC:
At the MTC, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We foster a culture of openness, teamwork, and shared learning across disciplines and departments. Our technicians are encouraged to contribute ideas, support colleagues, and engage in cross-functional projects that drive innovation and excellence. Candidates should be willing and able to engage in this collaborative environment, contributing positively to team dynamics and project outcomes.
Security & Vetting Requirements:
Due to the nature of some projects, candidates should be willing and able to undertake work in secure environments and may be required to undergo additional security vetting as part of their employment.
