The Head of HR and Medical Staffing leads the Operational HR and Medical Staffing teams, ensuring effective workforce and HR practices to support high-quality patient care within the Trust. This senior role involves strategic direction, operational management, and partnership working across multiple HR and medical staffing functions.
The role will lead the teams to ensure that modern, up to date and focused workforce and HR practices are in place to provide the very best support to management and clinical leads whilst ensuring that legal and statutory requirements are met and that resources are used effectively.
The post holder will be required to build strong and effective working relationships with all stakeholders in the development and delivery of the HR agenda including positive partnership working with Trade Union representatives. The post holder will work closely with Directors, clinicians, managers and staff across the organisation and shape the future delivery of best people employment practices.
Main duties of the job
1. Leadership and Accountability: Oversees HR Operational Services, Medical Staffing, Employee Relations, and Occupational Health.
2. Strategic Workforce Management: Provides strategic direction on workforce issues, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and effective resource use to support clinical and management teams.
3. Policy Development and Implementation: Leads initiatives on HR policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with national legislation, Department of Health requirements, and Trust priorities.
4. Employee Relations Leadership: Manages complex employee relations cases, promotes a restorative and just culture, and provides expert advice on disciplinary and grievance matters.
5. Medical Workforce Oversight: Leads the medical staffing team and has oversight of recruitment, retention, workforce planning, appraisal, revalidation, job planning, and rota management for medical staff, collaborating with clinical leaders and education teams.
6. Operational Excellence: Ensures HR services are prompt, efficient, and responsive, adapting team structures and processes to meet organizational needs and evaluating service impact.
