An exciting opportunity exists to join our Brighton College International (BCI) team as Director of Studies, with effect from either April or September 2026.
Brighton College International (BCI) is growing a family of outstanding international schools that reflects the high quality premium education offered by Brighton College UK. With new schools due to open in Madrid, Rome and Lisbon, and additional schools planned for other locations in major cities, the Director of Studies for BCI will join the group at an exciting time of expansion.
The successful candidate's primary task is to focus on the delivery of high educational standards in Brighton College international schools, with particular responsibility for the Senior phase, Years 7 to 13. However, in their wider role they will be expected to contribute to, and be influential in, all areas of BCI's operations. The Director of Studies reports to the Chief Education Officer for BCI, who is responsible for the educational delivery across all our international schools.
This role would suit either a current senior leader, or an experienced middle leader, who can demonstrate success across a range of leadership positions. The candidate appointed to this role will also be able to evidence a strong track record of delivering academic excellence, supported by outstanding pastoral care, which is essential to the success of any Brighton College school. Experience with, or ability to develop a strong working knowledge of, the IB Diploma Programme, would be advantageous.
Brighton College International comprises a diverse team of highly talented colleagues, with expertise in education, marketing, admissions, finance, architecture and design. The Director of Studies would work particularly closely with the educationalists in the team, who bring considerable experience across all age-phases, from Early Years to Sixth Form, and also with senior school teaching colleagues across the College, who support BCI in both operational and strategic areas.
This role also involves overseas travel in order to support the educational development of the Brighton College international schools around the world, and collaborate with colleagues.
Brighton College International are based in their own suite of offices just off-site, facilitating close collaboration within the team and across the family of schools. Teaching members of the BCI team remain embedded within the school by delivering a small timetable, and through engagement in the wider life of the College.

The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will be to:
* Work with the wider BCI team to ensure the education and pupil outcomes in all Brighton College international schools are of the highest standards, reflecting those delivered in Brighton College UK.
* Assist new schools in their pre-opening and start-up phase, by providing relevant curricula, policies, documents and advice as required, with a particular focus on the Senior phase (Years 7 to 13).
* Provide curricula guidance and support (e.g. IGCSE, A-level, IBDP), to help the international schools deliver top outcomes and an outstanding experience for senior school pupils.
* Deputise for other senior leaders in the BCI team as required.
* Attend key Brighton College meetings and events, and undertake a small number of teaching periods in any given specialist subject at Brighton College.
This includes:
* Supporting with the development and implementation of BCI's educational standards in Years 7 to 13.
* Working with Heads of Department and other pastoral and academic leaders in our international schools to challenge, motivate and empower them to attain ambitious outcomes for Senior School pupils. This will also involve regular video calls with senior and middle leaders.
* Supporting with the development and execution of annual educational reviews of all schools, and producing written reports with identified actions and timescales for resolution (international travel will be required).
* Helping to develop robust pastoral and academic policies, so that the international schools have clear procedures and systems for the collection, analysis and interrogation of education performance data, informing priorities for action at all (senior school) ages.
* Remaining abreast of new digital and technological developments (including in AI) in order to share best practice and advice with Heads of Department and other academic and pastoral leads in our international schools.
* Liaising with the Brighton College UK Global Futures and Sixth Form team to support Heads of Sixth Form across our international schools to deliver a comprehensive university and higher educational preparation programme.
* Coordinating meaningful visits to Brighton College UK for both pupils and staff from the international schools.
* Overseeing the implementation of academic competitions for pupils across the family of schools.
* Attending committee meetings (in person or virtually as required) for the international schools.
* Supporting our international schools with the recruitment process for key teaching and leadership roles.
Wider role:
* Providing opportunities for pupils, parents and staff to attend virtual presentations held at Brighton College UK.
* Overseeing the annual stakeholder surveys for the international schools, analysing results and producing relevant action plans.
* Attending key events, such as BCUK Open Mornings, opening ceremonies, dinners with prospective partners etc. as required.
* Developing strong relationships with our overseas partners to ensure effective collaboration resulting in our international schools becoming best in territory.
* Acting as an ambassador of the College and BCI at all times, both in and outside of school.
* In addition to the job description above, carrying out reasonable professional requests.

Salary
The salary for this role will depend upon skills and experience, and will be in line with the salary scales for Director of Studies roles in the independent sector. All of our teachers are enrolled into the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS).
