We have exciting an opportunity for a suitable qualified and experienced Specialist SEND Careers Advisor to join our Participation, Opportunity and Wellbeing Team, providing careers, information, advice and guidance to young people with Education and Health Care Plans aged 13-25. Working with identified schools and colleges you will produce tailored CIAG to meet the needs of those with special educations needs and disabilities (SEND), taking part in reviews and contributing to the education health and care plans as required, produce action plans and record information where appropriate. As a Specialist SEN Career Advisor, you will play a vital role in helping young people prepare themselves for adulthood and navigate their education/career path, having a positive impact on their lives. Special requirements for this post
The candidate will needto hold a QCF/NVQ Level 4 or higher in Careers Information, Advice and Guidanceor equivalent and have detailed knowledge of relevant developments in CIAG. You will need to have significant experience of working directly with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities aged 13-24 in a school and/ or college setting involving assessment ofneeds and provision of information, advice, guidance and support. Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and an understanding of the four broad areas of special educational need and how these needs impact on the lives of young people and their families is also important.
About you
You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver group work to young people and make presentations. Effective interpersonal skills are essential, to establish and develop relationships quickly with a range of contacts, including parents and carers, professionals working with young people, as well as young people themselves.
