A forward-thinking, top 40 accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Audit & Accounts Manager to join its Peterborough office. This is a key leadership role offering the opportunity to manage a diverse client portfolio while overseeing and developing a high-performing team. The position provides a balanced mix of audit and accounts work, alongside client relationship management, making it ideal for someone looking to step into a strategic, client-facing role within a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
Role Responsibilities
* Manage and deliver audit assignments for a varied client base, ensuring high-quality output for Partner sign-off.
* Review audit files, working papers, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
* Oversee a portfolio of clients, ensuring timely completion of accounts, tax returns and compliance work.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
* Prepare and review financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, charities and limited companies.
* Lead, organise and delegate workflow across the team, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
* Review work produced by junior staff, providing guidance, feedback and support.
* Monitor team performance and contribute to overall team development.
* Ensure all work is completed in line with relevant accounting standards and internal processes.
* Assist with complex VAT returns, tax schedules and advisory work where required.
Personal Requirements
* ACA or ACCA qualified.
* Strong background within general practice (audit and accounts).
* Proven experience managing client portfolios and leading teams.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
* Ability to build long-term client relationships and deliver a high level of service.
* Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
* Comfortable working under pressure and managing deadlines.
* Willingness to travel to client sites and between offices.
