The Orchard Medical Centre are looking to recruit a part time, enthusiastic and experienced Health Care Practitioner to join our friendly nursing team within a dynamic and progressive primary care environment. The role involves a range of services including phlebotomy, ECG's, wound care, suture and clip removal, NHS health checks, injections.

This role is for 18 hours and must include a 6.30 finish on a wednesday. This role will also involve working regular saturdays


Main duties of the job

The role involves managing own caseload ofpatients. This will include wound care, removal of sutures and clips,phlebotomy, ECG's, blood pressure, annual health checks.

With correct experience and/or trainingthis can also include hypertension monitoring and ear irrigation.

Job Summary

To be responsible for thedelivery of phlebotomy and other associated tasks, working as part of thepractice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practiceto the entitled patient population. The post holder will work under indirectsupervision of the clinical team and undertake tasks and duties delegated. Theywill work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs ofthe patients, following policies and procedures.

Learning and Development

The effective use of trainingand development is fundamental in ensuring that all staff are equipped with theappropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and competences to perform their role.All staff will be required to partake and complete mandatory training asdirected by the training coordinator, as well as participating in the practicetraining programme. Staff will also be permitted (subject to approval) toundertake external training courses which will enhance their knowledge andskills, progress their career and ultimately, enable them to improve processesand service delivery.

All staff are to recognise thesignificance of collaborative working. Teamwork is essential inmultidisciplinary environments. Effective communication is essential and allstaff must ensure they communicate in a manner which enables the sharing ofinformation in an appropriate manner.

Professional Conduct

At The Orchard medical Centrestaff are required to dress appropriately for their role. Administrative staffwill be provided with a uniform whilst clinical staff must dress in accordancewith their role.

Primary Responsibilities

The following are the coreresponsibilities of the HCP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carryout other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload andstaffing levels:

It is anticipated HCPs willdevelop skills in respecting patient/clients rights, preferences, choices,culture, identity, communication, Health and Safety and promoting health.

To be aware of maintainingpatient/client confidentiality at all times.

Will not undertake any task orelement of care until he/she has been assessed as competent by an appropriatelytrained registered nurse.

To act as a chaperone asrequired to GPs/Nursing Team.

To maintain standards oforganisation in the treatment, practice and GP rooms.

To assist in general nursingduties on completion of a training programme and the successful assessment of aset standard competency level and under the supervision of Practice NursingTeam, i.e. hypertension, ear syringing, spirometry, dressings, all eligiblevaccinations, delegated activities from specialist clinics e.g. footassessments for diabetes, urine testing, weight/height, blood pressuremeasurements, ECG recording, phlebotomy.

To prepare/assist the GPs inminor surgery/IUD fitting.

To be responsible for thecorrect maintenance, cleaning and disposal of surgical equipment.

To be responsible for there-stocking of all clinical areas and maintaining a stock rotation system.

To ensure that drug/vaccinerefrigerator/s are running at the correct temperature on a daily basis andmaintain the Vaccine Cold Chain.

Be aware and maintainstandards of Infection control.

Instruct patients inappropriate techniques or tasks.

To behave in a professionalmanner at all times, being aware of how attitudes and personal behaviour canimpact on patient/client care and the team as a whole.

To work within amulti-professional team and with patient/client valuing and respectingdiversity, rights and beliefs when different from ones own. To interact in aprofessional manner and effectively within the team.

Report immediately to a memberof clinical staff or Senior Manager any acts of omission or error to safeguardthe interests of the patient/client.

To present her/himself at alltimes in a manner that is open and honest and will work in partnership withpatients, clients, colleagues and the general public to enhance confidence,competence and best practice.

To deal, at all times,politely and respectfully using civilised language and behaviour, with allpatients, client and colleagues. Aggressive, abusive, threatening or violentbehaviour is not accepted.

To present a caring andefficient image and to present her/himself in a reasonable way, with due regardto social acceptability, tidiness and personal hygiene.

To wear the agreed uniform ina clean and presentable condition with safe and suitable footwear. The uniformwill comply with Health and Safety, Infection Control guidelines. Jewellerywill be kept to a minimum.

Maintain accurate clinicalrecords in conjunction with extant legislation

Ensure read codes andtemplates are used effectively

Support the team in dealingwith clinical emergencies

Liaise with external services/ agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerablepatients etc.)

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primaryresponsibilities, the HCP will be requested to:

To identify and liaiseregularly with the Nurse Manager

To take an appropriate levelof responsibility in participating in individual annual performance reviews.

To take responsibility forcompleting and submitting an annual PDP by the appointed date each year

To maintain own clinicaldevelopment by participating within training relevant to their developing role.
