Assistant Director of Transformation and Innovation
We are looking to appoint an outstanding and experienced individual to lead the transformation and innovation of Children’s Social Care within Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. The role reports directly to the Director of Children’s Services and focuses on developing and delivering strategic reforms for SEND and Families First.
Responsibilities
* Develop, oversee and implement policy guidance, ensuring alignment with national reforms and strategic plans.
* Provide leadership on improvement, policy, strategy, governance, partnerships and legislative change.
* Line‑manage teams responsible for Targeted Early Help, Family Hubs, Youth Offending Service, Commissioning, Children’s Residential Homes, Strategy, Transformation and Governance.
* Deliver transformational and strategic leadership as part of the Children’s Directorate Leadership Team, establishing robust governance arrangements.
* Lead the commissioning strategy and targeted support functions for children’s services.
* Ensure the ongoing effectiveness of children’s safeguarding arrangements across the council.
Qualifications
* Relevant degree or professional membership with substantial equivalent experience.
* Proven experience in improving outcomes for children and young people, particularly safeguarding.
* Demonstrated leadership and management across a range of services with multiple stakeholders.
* Experience working within a political accountability environment and managing relationships with partners, councillors, MPs and ministers.
* Strong communication, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
