Job Description

Managing the strategy and execution of Chelsea’s women’s social media output across multiple global channels (TikTok, IG, Facebook, X and WhatsApp) with a collective following of over 12.7 million fans. The Social Media Manager will need to ensure their team of 3 FTEs produce high-quality social content that delivers against both high creative standards and multiple business targets.

In essence, the goal is to build the best social media team in Women’s Sport that effectively supports Chelsea FC’s business goals.

Main responsibilities

* Creative, content and social media excellence (50%)
* Commission, create and publish social content that other women’s sports teams aspire to copy.
* Lead ideation and briefing sessions to ensure output stands out in stream, has high creative standards, creates a connection with the existing community of Chelsea fans and/or inspires new fans.
* Work with the internal design, video, comms and the women’s football team set-up to produce social graphics and clips that have a clear purpose (as outlined in the strategy) and are appropriate and bespoke for each social media channel.
* Inspire the women’s social media team to produce entertaining social content, specifically vertical video, that helps to develop the profile of the men’s and women’s players and the club.
* Use your knowledge of the latest social media trends and platform functions to develop best-in-class social media output.
* Establish content planning and publishing processes for you and your team to follow on a weekly basis including submitting a weekly content plan to the business.
* Ensure data, analysis and insights are used to help set strategy, understand audiences and optimise performance on a monthly basis. Report to the business on the impact of social media using key reach, relevance and revenue metrics.

Strategy and supporting business goals: partners, campaigns, data collection & driving traffic to O+O (25%)

* Create social media content that is creatively valuable and commercially viable. Working with the Partnerships team, develop and execute posts that generate commercial value for partners whilst engaging fans.
* Support the business in executing campaigns, for example, creatively using social media to sell tickets for big women’s game, merchandise and promoting the work of the Foundation.
* Develop a women’s channels social media strategy that supports business goals. Any strategy would include objectives, audience insights, content and channel plans, targets, team roles, and responsibilities.
* Working with the wider Digital team to devise and execute plans to increase traffic to the Chelsea website and app.
* Agree KPIs and targets with the wider digital, marketing and commercial functions. All output should aim to achieve these collective CFCW goals.

Manage a high-performing team (25%)

* Provide inspiring leadership to the immediate team and wider function; set clear performance expectations and coach them to superior performance.
* Develop initiatives to strengthen the depth of organisational talent within the direct team and build a culture of learning, openness and empowerment.
* Inspire a continuous improvement mindset and commitment to lifelong learning.

Personal spezification

* Proven track record of managing multiple social media channels, ideally in the entertainment or sports industry.
* 3-5 years experience working in digital, ideally with a focus on social media publishing and content production.
* Some experience in translating business plans into social media strategy, results orientated and adept at galvanising teams behind ambitious goals.
* High levels of social media platform functionality (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, WhatsApp, Threads, Snap), content trends and analytics knowledge.
* Creative thinker, able to lead ideation and leverage best practices from other industries to ensure ongoing creative excellence and create industry-first ideas.
* Experience of managing, developing and helping others perform to the best of their abilities.
* Data-driven mindset; used to using social media analytics to help make decisions.
* Experience in setting up processes, for example, content planning, briefing and social reporting.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, operates with gravitas and easily builds stakeholder trust.
* An interest and knowledge of the Women’s Super League.
