City of York Council wish to recruit a Head of Public Health to support their exciting Adults and Families agenda, working as a senior member within the Public Health Directorate. The post will be based at West Offices with hybrid working.
We are seeking an officer who is passionate about reducing health inequalities, has a proven track record of leadership and working at a strategic level.
The postholder will require considerable public health experience within a local authority in order to lead cross cutting and strategic public health programmes across the council and with a wide range of partner agencies locally and regionally, with the aim of improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities.
They will develop and lead the public health response to key individual risk factors for adult ill health, including: isolation, smoking, poor mental wellbeing, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet and social vulnerability, as well as a clear vision and strategy for a whole-family approach to prevention services in conjunction with the Healthy Child Service.
They will provide strategic leadership and operational management of the Adults and Families prevention team, ensuring high quality delivery of services and strategies which maximise the health and wellbeing of adults and families in the city, and maintains the council’s strength-based approach to supporting people in communities.

This role is suitable as a job sharing position.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
