You might have just graduated with some experience in the field, or perhaps you have worked as a technician and are seeking the next step in your career.
We are seeking someone with an entrepreneurial spirit.
As the Junior Technical Quality Assurance Lead, you will be an integral part of a medium-sized, rapidly growing company. Your role will involve leading all technical matters and liaising across departments to ensure that excellent food safety standards are maintained, promoted, and further developed.
Proven experience in a technical role is desirable. You should have working knowledge and experience of BRCGS (essential), HACCP, B Corp, and internal and external audit requirements.
The client currently holds an AA+ BRCGS grade, and the successful candidate must be able to maintain this standard.
Your responsibilities will include exploring ways to improve technical procedures, food safety, and food safety culture within the business. You should have up-to-date knowledge of UK legislation related to food safety, labelling, and ingredients, and be able to understand relevant international food safety legislative requirements.
Key responsibilities:
1. Ensure compliance with all site requirements, including BRCGS Global standards, customer audits, and BRCGS accreditation audit requirements.
2. Manage the company's complaint system, including responding, recording, and trending complaints.
3. Develop and maintain the QMS and HACCP, TACCP, & VACCP as team lead.
4. Manage product specifications, including those on customers’ online portals.
5. Liaise with colleagues, Heads of Departments, and Directors to maintain and develop B Corp certification.
6. Ensure understanding and implementation of food safety, legality, and quality standards across the site.
7. Manage non-conformances or risks to products, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
8. Oversee sampling for laboratory testing.
9. Perform quality control on traded goods.
10. Assist with NPD requirements, such as artwork proofing, shelf-life determination, and HACCP risk assessments.
11. Promote and manage a food safety culture within the site, ensuring health and safety requirements are met and regularly reviewed.
12. Communicate and escalate issues with Directors, Heads of Departments, and colleagues as necessary.
13. Lead the traceability team and oversee traceability exercises.
Key Skills:
1. Approachable, calm, and focused, with good administrative skills to prioritize and delegate tasks.
2. Degree-level training in a food science discipline is preferred.
3. Proven leadership skills, attention to detail, and a customer-focused approach.
4. Understanding of BRCGS Food Safety Issue 9 (August 2022).
5. Food Safety and HACCP Level 3 qualification, with ideally a Lead Auditor qualification.
6. Working knowledge of raw material and packaging specifications, factory technical management, retail customer requirements, and hosting food safety audits, including BRCGS, QMS, and HACCP.
7. Own transport is desirable due to the remote site location.
