The ideal candidate will have

Senior Buyer – Electronics/Telecoms | Cambridgeshire | Office-Based with Some Travel

You will be an expert with Purchasing systems, methods and processes and deputise for the Purchasing Team Leader where necessary for this global electronics manufacturing business.

The role will also encompass significant involvement in new product developments from concept and prototype stages, through to volume production and support.

It is also anticipated that their growth will require a greater degree of outsourced content in the Development cycle and the Senior Buyer will play a key role in the execution of this strategy.

Role:
1. Work with the Purchasing Team Leader to define and implement purchasing strategy.
2. Work with key stakeholders to define and deploy supply chain strategy for new product developments that achieve the business’ delivery, quality and cost targets.
3. Identify, select and approve suppliers that meet the short, medium and long-term needs of the business, considering the total cost of ownership over the entire product life.
4. Negotiate and agree contracts for outsourced projects for accessories.
5. Work with NPI to co-ordinate and set-up new suppliers.
6. Coach and consult with Purchasing team to ensure best practices are maintained.

Day to Day:

Their customer base includes many different industries and markets around the world. Their solutions have been developed specifically for users in multiple sectors to face their critical communications challenges.

You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business.

Activities you will be responsible for include:
11. Supply chain strategy definition and deployment for new products
12. Supplier identification, selection and approval in line with agreed strategy
13. Ensure designs are produced that correspond with production capability
14. Work to negotiate / establish appropriate contracts
15. Work with Quality and NPI to prepare suppliers for volume production
16. Contract negotiation
17. Cost reduction / price negotiation
18. Stock ordering / lean inventory management
19. Purchase order processing
20. Ensuring materials are delivered in time to support customer demand
21. Driving continuous improvement through our international supply base
22. Identifying and assessing new sources where applicable to help drive the company’s cost reduction and quality improvement targets
23. Supporting new product introduction activity; ensuring that the relevant process controls are implemented to ensure the delivery of a quality product
24. Supply chain development in consideration of the total cost of acquisition
25. Identifying areas of manufacturing weakness and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented
26. Commodity market movement analysis
27. Assessment and management of component obsolescence
28. Maintaining an understanding of suppliers’ financial health and mitigation of risk as appropriate
This role involves some travelling so the successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence and own car. Travel expenses will be paid.

This role will also require Security Clearance which the successful candidate should be prepared to go through. They will apply for this approval on behalf of the candidate.

What you need to succeed:
Qualifications
29. Level 4 CIPs Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply.
Experience and Skills
30. Extensive Supply Chain experience within the Electronics/Telecommunications Industries, including the management of complex global Supplier/Customer relationships.
31. Experience of off-shore Contract Manufacturing Management.
32. Experience of product development from concept to volume manufacture
33. Credibility to influence at senior level – with both internal and external stakeholders.
34. Priority and time management – ability to act decisively under pressure.
