Neway International are seeking a Personal Advisor to join our client based with West Sussex County Council. Location: Littlehampton, West Sussex, BN17 5LF Hours: 7.5 hours per day Start Date: 23 March 2026 Work Pattern Hybrid working. Attendance at the Littlehampton office 1–2 times per week for team meetings. Every 6 weeks, attendance required 3 times per week when on duty. Face‑to‑face visits with young people are essential. Home working permitted when not visiting or attending the office. About the Client West Sussex County Council’s Leaving Care Service sits within Children, Young People and Learning. The service supports over 600 young people each year as they transition from care into adulthood, providing guidance, stability and practical support to help them achieve independence and positive outcomes. The Role The Personal Advisor will work directly with young people aged 16–25 who are leaving the care of the Local Authority. You will support them to develop the skills needed for independent living, help them navigate education, employment and housing pathways, and provide consistent, trauma‑informed guidance. The role involves assessing needs, managing risk, supporting aspirations, and ensuring young people are safe, supported and empowered during their transition to adulthood. Key Responsibilities Provide direct support to care leavers aged 16–25, helping them develop independence skills and achieve personal goals. Build positive, trusting relationships with young people, offering guidance on education, employment, housing, health and wellbeing. Assess and meet learning, personal and social needs, ensuring support is safe, appropriate and responsive. Identify and manage risks, leading on safety planning where required. Maintain regular face‑to‑face contact with young people, including home visits and community‑based meetings. Work collaboratively with social workers, partner agencies and internal teams to support transition planning. Promote aspiration, resilience and positive outcomes for young people with complex needs, including trauma, mental health, substance use or offending behaviours. Maintain accurate case records and documentation in line with statutory requirements. Attend team meetings, duty weeks and multi‑agency discussions as required. Support the wider Care Leavers service as part of West Sussex’s improvement journey. Candidate Requirements Essential Experience & Skills Experience working with children or young people as a Personal Advisor or within Children’s Social Care. Ability to build rapport and work effectively with young people who may have experienced trauma or instability. Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management and trauma‑informed practice. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for visits. Desirable Experience supporting care leavers or young people with complex needs. Knowledge of local authority processes and statutory responsibilities for care leavers. Understanding of housing, education, employment and health pathways for young people.
