The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. We are seeking a Fixed‑term Senior Adviser (up to 2 years) to provide regulatory expertise in the energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
 * Develop strategy for the energy sector and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Experience & Skills Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge with experience regulating processes such as combustion, emissions control and environmental impact assessment.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
