* Health and Safety Degree Qualified (or experience equivalent to a degree).
* Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards
* A minimum of 7 years’ health and safety management experience within the construction industry, or demonstrable equivalent gained through a combination of knowledge, qualifications, and relevant industry experience.
* Fully aware of regulatory, legislative and industry standards.

Responsibilities include:
1. Ensure the Construction Phase Plan is fit for purpose, reviewed regularly, and updated in line with project developments.
2. Ensure emergency arrangements and plans are suitable, tested, communicated, and reviewed throughout the project.
3. Develop and implement a comprehensive HSW strategy tailored to the complexity of a major tunnelling environment.
4. Ensure compliance with STRABAG UK, legal, and industry HSW requirements and standards including BSI 6164.
5. Set up and manage integrated HSW management systems aligned with ISO 45001 and best practice, considering ISO 45003 (psychosocial risk).
6. Oversee occupational health provision and wellbeing initiatives, ensuring access to health surveillance, support services, and campaigns promoting physical and mental wellbeing.
7. Produce mobilisation guidance and lead early-phase HSW planning for safe project delivery.
8. Embed HSW into design and planning activities in line with CDM 2015.
9. Communicate HSW requirements clearly across all project levels and the supply chain.
10. Share and embed lessons learned and best practices across projects and the wider organization.
11. Collaborate with regulatory bodies, industry groups, and stakeholders to ensure transparency, compliance, and influence best practices.
12. Build trusted relationships with clients, contractors, and delivery partners.
13. Engage with the supply chain to align expectations, raise standards, and drive improvements.
14. Act as a visible HSW leader across all project levels.
15. Implement and monitor the Better Together behavioural change programme focused on engagement, leadership, and learning.
16. Lead initiatives promoting psychological safety, inclusion, and mental health support, aligned with ISO 45003.
17. Work with departments like People Operations, Culture, Quality, Environmental & Sustainability, and EDI to foster a culture of care and respect.
18. Establish and oversee HSW assurance processes, including audits, inspections, and performance reviews.
19. Develop audit frameworks to verify compliance with requirements and provide assurance reports to leadership and stakeholders.
20. Set and monitor HSW targets for the supply chain.
21. Support project leadership with performance management processes and data-driven decision-making.
22. Provide regular performance reports and insights to leadership and governance structures.
23. Implement reporting systems and dashboards to track indicators, trends, and actions.
24. Lead or support incident investigations, ensuring learnings are shared.
25. Ensure corrective actions are closed out and verified.
26. Ensure project staff receive relevant HSW training.
27. Lead and direct the HSW team, including contractor representatives.
