Overview
Dental Officer Post (Ref: 226322) – With Oral Surgery Option. Full Time – 37.5 hours per week. Fixed Term with Substantive Option. This is a salaried dental practice within NHS Shetland Public Dental Service, in modern and well-equipped surgeries. The role supports patient-centred care and continuous improvement within a remote and rural dental team.
The post involves covering clinical requirements across NHS Shetland PDS Service, offering exposure to a wide range of patient demographics and needs, and work across different clinical settings as part of the weekly schedule. It is suitable for a colleague with oral surgery experience who wishes to develop further by working with the visiting consultant-led OMFS service. Support from the SDO and Director of Dentistry includes a programme of CPD and opportunities to develop additional skills and interests.

Responsibilities
* Cover clinical requirements across NHS Shetland Public Dental Service.
* Provide care to a diverse patient population across different clinical settings.
* Develop and apply oral surgery skills, with opportunities to work with the visiting consultant-led OMFS service.
* Engage in a programme of supported CPD and pursue additional skills and interests as desired.
Location and Service Context
NHS Shetland delivers dental services through the Public Dental Service, General Dental Services, Community Dentistry, and secondary care dental services via a network of visiting consultants. The workforce includes dentists, therapists, hygienists, dental nurses, oral health educators and other support staff.
Terms and Conditions
* This position can be fixed term or full time and permanent.
* Salary range: £54,117 - £81,174 per annum (pro rata).
* Remote Areas Allowance: £4,500 per annum (pro rata).
* Distant Island Allowance: £2,482 per annum.
* Recruitment and Retention Allowance: £25,000 paid over 2 years (subject to eligibility).
* Out of Hours Allowance & on-call payment (if undertaking on-call duties).
* Relocation assistance up to £4,000 per year for the first two years (subject to policy).
* Up to 33 days annual leave per annum plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).
