Our client is well established within the shipping and logistics industry and is currently looking for a new member of staff to join their team at their East London office. The company are part of a larger group and have office throughout the UK. The company offers door to door logistics solutions via Air, Road and Sea freight within specialised commodities. They are currently expanding and looking for a freight forwarding Trainee to join them within their ocean freight department. The role would ideally suit someone who has a basic level of experience within the industry or a Graduate who has either graduated within shipping and logistics or has a genuine interest of this sector.
Purpose of the role:
My client is looking for entry level candidates who are interested on embarking on their career journey within the shipping and logistics sector, with a vision to drive future growth, which will offer development opportunities for staff. Tasks the Trainee will undertake will necessarily start with the more basic, core functions of the operations, but there is scope for significant development and role growth for candidates with the correct mindset and aptitude.
Duties will include:
Documentation & Compliance
· Assist in preparing Bills of Lading, shipping instructions, commercial invoices
· and packing lists
· Ensure all export/import documentation is accurate and compliant with
· relevant regulations
· Learn to submit VGM (Verified Gross Mass) and customs documentation as
· required
Bookings & Co-ordination
* · Support the booking of containers and shipments with shipping lines, hauliers
* · and consolidators
* · Monitor schedules, cut-offs and ETAs to ensure timely movement of cargo
* · Coordinate loading, collection, and delivery arrangements with suppliers,
* · depots, and customers
Customer & Supplier Communication
* · Communicate professionally with customers and service partners to provide
* · updates and resolve queries
* · Support internal teams in ensuring a high standard of service delivery
* Problem Solving
* · Supporting the Supervisor implement process improvements
* · Assist in identifying delays or issues; escalate where necessary
* · Learn to propose and implement solutions to ensure continuity of service
Requirements
Experience required:
Well educated ideally with a degree
Good communication skills
Competent in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage priorities
Eager to learn, proactive and willing to take ownership once trained
Team player with a positive attitude
The right candidate will need to have an enquiring mind, a desire to understand why they are
doing something, rather than just following processes blindly. The team will be going through
a period of process improvement, and this mindset is therefore critical so that all team
members are pulling in the same direction and supporting the team Supervisor
On the job training will be provided by the Supervisor
and other team members on an on-going basis.
