Payroll Officer - Part-Time (22 Hours/Week)

Location: West Midlands

Contract: Temp-Perm







Working Hours: 22 hours/week over 4 days (including Fridays)

DBS Required: Enhanced with children's barred list (or willingness to apply)

A well-established education provider in the West Midlands is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join their HR and Payroll team on a part-time, temp-permanent basis. This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive environment, contributing to the smooth and efficient running of an in-house monthly payroll function.


Key Responsibilities:

* Assist in the end-to-end monthly payroll process in line with internal policies and audit standards
* Accurately process various pay elements, including manual claims, mileage, and electronic submissions
* Support with key changes including starters, leavers, bank details, and contractual amendments
* Run initial payroll reports and liaise with managers to address discrepancies
* Provide responsive support to staff and liaise with third parties such as HMRC and pension providers
* Contribute to pension scheme administration (e.g. Teachers' Pensions, local government schemes)
* Provide support for general HR/payroll administrative tasks (filing, post, shredding, etc.)
* Assist with maintaining and improving HR/payroll systems
* Offer short-term cover for the Payroll Supervisor when required
* Deliver excellent internal customer service


What We're Looking For:

* Experience working within a payroll function, preferably in an education or public sector setting
* Strong attention to detail and understanding of payroll processes
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Ability to work to deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information professionally
* Flexibility to support operational needs, especially around payroll deadlines
