Join our team in the exciting new role of Ward Manager in Caterpillar Ward, our outpatient unit treating children with a wide range of conditions.
Regular clinics are led by consultants from a wide range of different clinical specialties including haematology & oncology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, respiratory, neurology, surgery and dermatology, as well nurse led and phlebotomy clinics.
As Ward Manager you will work closely with the International & Private Care Senior Nursing and Education Teams to ensure the provision of the best care to our cohort of mixed speciality patients, with support from the speciality teams and the infrastructure based here at GOSH.
Your role is instrumental in leading the team and raising its profile within the directorate and Trust, with unique exposure to managing international and private treatment pathways administration.

Main duties of the job
* To provide effective leadership, expertise, advice and support to ward/department team to ensure the provision of high-quality care to children, young people and their families.
* To ensure the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocated resources.
* To take overall responsibility for standards of cleanliness within the clinical area.
* To act as a role model and expert practitioner, promoting a high standard of holistic family centered care to children, young people and their families.
* To recruit and retain a skilled nursing workforce.
* To facilitate the development of all staff within the team.
* To plan and implement innovative and progressive ways for continuous improvement of patient care through research evidence-based practice.
* To foster and maintain a professional and positive working relationship with external sponsors (national embassies, overseas health ministries, insurance organisations).
* To undertake delegate responsibility for the ward/unit in the absence of the Matron.

Academic/Professional Quals/Training
Essential criteria
* NMC registration in the relevant branch
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Assessing and mentoring qualification
* Systematic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) competent
* Intravenous drug administration competent
Desirable criteria
* Phlebotomy and cannulation skills competent
* Advanced study in clinical speciality (ongoing or completed)
* Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) / European Advanced Paediatric Life Support (EPALS)
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Expert working nursing knowledge of clinical speciality
* Demonstrable experience of taking charge of a clinical department
* Experience of leading and managing a team of nursing staff
* Experience of private treatment pathways and billing processes
* Experience of change management and problem solving
Desirable criteria
* Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
