Our Services Welfare Officers provide vital welfare support to the Armed Forces to both new recruits and service personnel at military bases within the UK and overseas.

As a Services Welfare Officer you will manage our WRVS facility on a military site. This will involve:
* Providing an independent, confidential and sensitive welfare support
* Supporting service personnel on a one-to-one basis
* Helping them find solutions to personal and practical issues
* Using your judgement to signpost them to other support agencies or our military colleagues where appropriate.
Hours: 36 per week over 6 days per week, this includes evening and weekend working
Location: Based at one of the military bases within the UK (relocating to a new site every two years).
You will be provided with free one-person military accommodation based on site in the UK with the opportunity to be considered to work abroad at a later stage. Your food and drink is also subsidised!
Job Requirements
This is what we're looking for:
We are looking for applicants with broad experience in working with young adults and more experienced service personnel in a welfare setting.
You may have previously worked in youth and community work, social work, counselling, education or healthcare settings.
Ideally you will have:
* Experience of working with young or 'at risk' adults
* Previous experience of effective networking with other agencies
* To be prepared to live in one person accommodation (provided)
* The flexibility to live anywhere within the UK or overseas for prolonged periods of time, i.e. two years
* Basic IT skills
* A full, valid driving licence
* A valid UK passport
You will also need:
* To demonstrate flexibility to relocate at short notice, be self-motivated and approachable
* To demonstrate proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
* To possess time-management, planning and prioritisation abilities
* The ability to demonstrate confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues
* A good track record of working effectively within a team
* A relevant qualification in an area such as youth work, social work, teaching or similar, would be beneficial to your application, as would knowledge of the military environment but this is not a deal breaker!
Job Responsibilities
This is what you'll be doing:
* Updating line manager regularly on all issues relating to the service and the centre in particular, such issues as self-harm, investigations or media interest at the unit.
* Working closely with the Chain of Command particularly the Unit Welfare Officer and attend unit meetings as and when required.
* Building good working relationships with other welfare agencies involved at the unit.
* To be aware of the MoD structure and other support agencies in order to make appropriate referrals to third parties.
* To make suitable recommendations to the Unit and line manager for improving the centre and tailoring the activities and events on offer to the units requirements.
* Deliver induction presentations to service personnel.
* Attendance at formal mess functions may be required, representing Services Welfare on these occasions and acting in line with the Code of Conduct.
* Attending appropriate Services Welfare training courses. When invited to attend MoD/Unit training courses, informing line manager of their attendance before accepting invitation to ensure that the training is appropriate to the role.
* In extreme circumstances you may be asked to provide out of hours support. Any such request from the Unit must be notified to the line manager at the earliest opportunity to ensure such call outs can be monitored.
* You may be invited to attend exercises whereby they will be required to provide welfare support; in all cases the cost must be financed by the Unit (this includes insurance etc.). Trips must be authorised by the line manager prior to accepting the invitation.
* To make welfare visits in line with the unit’s requirements as appropriate and authorised by your line manager.
* Attending MoD shows/exhibitions and represent Services Welfare at external events as required, these may include unit open days.
* Maintaining housekeeping of the centre to a high standard.
* Ensuring all health and safety practices are implemented and observed to meet statutory and corporate standards, including accident and incident reporting.
* Ensuring the appropriate uniform, which is provided by Services Welfare is worn during working hours and when representing WRVS.
* Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by Services Welfare management.
