The Role
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) at New Victoria Hospital (NVACH) is looking for an Anaesthetic / Post Anaesthetic Care Unit Practitioner (PACU). Candidates must be a First Level Registered Nurse on the NMC register (Paediatric & adult trained) or a Registered Operating Department Practitioner on the HPC register. Experience in the Anaesthetic / PACU environment is desirable. The DSU provides complex care for patients in a fast‑paced, collaborative setting and will require the successful applicant to be dual‑trained and skilled in at least two areas of the unit (e.g., Scrub/Anaesthesia, Anaesthesia/Recovery).
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
* Location: New Victoria Hospital
* Contract: Permanent
* Position: Full‑time (36 hours per week)
* Shift pattern: Monday‑Friday only, 0800‑1800x2 or 0800‑1730x2
Key Responsibilities
* Assess patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate person‑centred care programmes that are evidence‑based and culturally appropriate.
* Maintain patient records in line with NMC/HPC guidelines.
* Practice within the legal and ethical framework established by the Nursing Midwifery Council, NHS, and national legislation.
* Apply NHS, Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures.
* Empower patients to take responsibility for their health and well‑being, providing clear information for shared decision‑making.
* Respect and protect confidential information in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
Essential Qualifications
* First Level Registered Nurse on NMC register (Paediatric & adult trained) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner on HPC register.
* Ability to work required shifts, including night duty and public holidays.
* Willingness to work on any site within Glasgow & Clyde when required.
Desirable Qualifications
* Recent experience in an operating theatre or immediate postoperative recovery room (HDU experience also acceptable).
* Post‑registration qualification relevant to perioperative care.
