Rubicon Consulting is recruiting for a Technical Specialist on a permanent basis based in the West Midlands.
Role Summary
This role is the principal technical specialist in all areas relating to process engineering in wastewater, working with members of the process department, other company members, and external bodies, as directed by the Technical Director to assist with the development and maintenance of key competences in the Process Department.
Responsibilities
* Help develop the wastewater sector's key competences required in the Process Department, as directed by the Technical Director.
* Undertake in-depth investigations of new technologies to advise on feasibility, desirability, and risks involved in developing them into engineered solutions.
* Act as a focal point in the leadership of technical matters relating to wastewater and generic process engineering, including contribution to research and development and advising others as required; provide technical support and expertise to both Bid Teams and Delivery Teams.
* Serve as technical liaison with licensors for technologies licensed by the company, ensuring technology transfer is maximised and maintaining effective working relationships with licensor technical staff.
* Promote dissemination of up‑to‑date knowledge in wastewater treatment and other generic process‑related engineering to other process engineers.
* Support the development of company‑wide process engineering standards to meet national and client‑originated standards.
* Participate in business development—including the preparation and presentation of technical papers for seminars, tender development, and project execution—to support the company’s purposes.
* Advise on the technical assessment and approval of vendors and sub‑contractors as identified by the Technical Director.
* Support the Technical Director in the selection, training development, and auditing of Process Engineers.
* Comply with all Health and Safety responsibilities as outlined in the company policy.
* Perform any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
Essential
* A degree‑level qualification (or equivalent) in Chemical or Process Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline.
* Significant relevant experience in the wastewater sector, commensurate with the level of the role, with demonstrable expert technical knowledge and expertise.
* Ability to use a wide range of IT packages, including Microsoft Office.
* Able to work on own initiative with little or no supervision.
* Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
* Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
* Well‑developed interpersonal, networking and relationship‑building skills, both with internal staff and external parties.
* Ability to keep track of technological developments within wastewater, and maintain/present information on relevant technology applications to non‑technical experts.
Desirable
* Corporate Membership of IChemE, CIWEM or similar professional institution.
* Chartered Engineer, Eur Ing or similar status.
