Key responsibilities and duties:
* The Fleetlands Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response for operational flying at Fleetlands HLS and handles incidents at the Fleetlands Site, including fire, medical, and environmental emergencies. Members are governed by documents within the Fleetlands Business Management System (BMS), including the Station Manual, Operational Policies, Risk Assessments, and Safety Notices.
* The role complies with regulations such as DSA-DFSR-02 – Defence Aerodrome Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF), CAP 699, and National Occupational Standards, along with HQ DFRMO Directive HRD 08/2006 on Medical Standards.
* Firefighters must maintain operational readiness for immediate deployment to any incident, which may be physically and mentally demanding and involve hazards.
* Adhere to our Quality, Safety, Environmental Management Systems, and related policies documented in the BMS.
Competencies:
Core:
* Operational Readiness: Ensure firefighting and medical equipment are prepared for emergencies.
* Operational Risks: Maintain knowledge of hazards and resources on site for effective incident management.
* Operational Competency: Undergo ongoing training and assessments to stay prepared for emergencies.
Health & Safety:
* Comply with on-site health and safety policies, use equipment correctly, and follow safe working practices to minimize risks.
Dignity at Work:
* Follow the company’s Dignity at Work policy to promote a fair, respectful, and productive environment.
Organisational Relationships:
* Fire Safety: Participate in fire safety tasks across Standard Aero UK facilities to ensure safety measures are in place.
* Environmental Protection: Respond to spillages and pollution risks, contain hazards, and provide staff training.
* Medical Response: Deliver emergency medical actions and training on-site and at other facilities.
* Education Delivery: Educate staff on fire safety, pollution control, manual handling, and other relevant topics.
Qualifications and Training:
Essential:
* Initial Firefighter Course or equivalent
* Full Category B Driver’s License
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in firefighting roles (aviation or similar)
* Active or recent experience within the last 12 months
* Pass medical, carry, and walk tests, and security checks
Desirable:
* Bridging Course (Aviation) or equivalent for CAP 699 compliance
* Breathing Apparatus Wearer Course
* Large Vehicle License (Category C)
* Fire Extinguisher Maintenance Qualification
* Emergency Response Driving qualifications
* Additional qualifications such as First Aid, Trauma Care, Human Factors, Airside Driving, and Instructor Certifications
