Ofcom is the regulator for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, video‑on‑demand, online safety, telecommunications, wireless communications and postal services. With the broadcasting sector rapidly transforming and digital platforms redefining how audiences engage with content, Ofcom is seeking up to two non‑executive members eager to contribute to shaping regulation for this evolving landscape, bringing independent insight and a diverse range of perspectives.
On this occasion, we would be interested to receive applications from people with experience working in sectors such as video streaming, podcasting, independent production and content creation.
Ofcom has been providing protection and assurance for audiences across television, radio and video‑on‑demand for many years. Increasingly, these issues are set within the wider context of changes in communications markets. As audiences increasingly move online, a key part of our work is to consider the challenges this poses for viewers and listeners and for the sectors that we regulate. Ofcom’s Content Board plays an important role in delivering this work and in helping shape future approaches to content regulation. This is an exciting time to join us and help shape policy in a fast‑changing regulatory environment.
The Content Board is a Committee of Ofcom’s Main Board and is charged with understanding, analysing and championing the voices and interests of the viewer, the listener and citizen. The Content Board advises the Ofcom Board on decisions relating to content matters, including considering the interests of different parts of the UK, and also content‑related matters that intersect between the regulatory regimes for the broadcast and video on‑demand sectors and the regulatory regime for online safety. Content Board members generally form part of the rota for giving advisory opinions on Ofcom content standards decisions and, depending upon experience, may be asked to give advice to the Executive on other specialist matters.
To apply to join the Content Board you will need to show in your covering letter how you meet many of the key competencies below. No previous experience of being a non‑executive member is necessary.
The Committee meets up to six times per year, predominantly in London. The time commitment is four days a month and the annual fee is £16,800. Non‑executive members are paid under PAYE.
Applications for the role will close at 00.01 on Monday 29 June 2026 and final interviews will be held on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 July at Ofcom’s London office. The interview panel will be Sir Clive Jones (Chair of the Content Board), Cristina Nicolotti Squires (Ofcom Group Director for Broadcasting and Media) and an Independent Panel Member.
Potential or actual conflicts of interest must be declared and discussed at interview. Content Board Members are required to act in accordance with the Board’s Code of Conduct, which applicants are encouraged to read. No Member of the Board may be directly employed by organisations that Ofcom regulates or licenses or derive the majority of their employment income from such a company even if not so employed. Applicants must have personal integrity of a high order and ensure that their conduct accords with the Seven Principles of Public Life.
