We are recruiting currently Band 6 Clinical Bed Manager posts at Southmead hospital, Bristol.
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated registered nurse/midwife/OPD or eq to our Clinical Site Management Team.
The successful candidates will have a sound clinical background with effective decision-making skills and the ability to work as part of a team. You will be confident in using electronic systems (patient electronic record system). You must also have good listening, communication skills and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to work under pressure in challenging situations where conflict may arise.

Main duties of the job
To support the Clinical Site Manager in the day to day bed management of the hospital in both urgent and elective care. You will be responsible for having oversight of your areas empty beds, discharges and potential discharges and be able to escalate to the relevant teams accordingly and barriers to transfers
You will be required to attend regular touch points through the day as part of the multidisciplinary team and be able to effectively convey messaging out to ward teams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. The post will support the Clinical Site Management (CSM) team to ensure the flow of emergency and elective admissions is managed effectively
2. Use of internal electronic bed management systems, escalating delays or barriers as necessary.
3. To work proactively to facilitate patient flow through the Directorates, ensuring patient safety, and working within the national and local patient access targets. Specifically supporting the CSM with the management of the Emergency zone and the allocation of beds when required within the local standards.
4. To monitor and ensure the effective use of beds within directorate bed base through the use of electronic bed management systems.
5. To work within the agreed protocols to liaise with other Trusts and Directorates specifically for the repatriation of patients to ensure efficient utilisation of beds.
6. To maintain knowledge of the ongoing organisational changes within the Trust.
7. To work alongside the Corporate and Divisional multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe management of patients through the organisation
8. Work closely with and communicate any issues promptly to the CSM, Clinical Matron, AGMs/Manager of the day when needed
9. To ensure data collection for audit trails thereby ensuring effective utilisation of beds and relevant data quality standards are maintained in line with Directorate and Organisation requirements
10. To be responsible for the booking and tracking of admissions with the relevant medical staff through electronic bed management systems To monitor actual and predicted discharges on a daily basis and to inform Clinical Matron of any potential delays. To refer any issues regarding complicated and delayed discharges to the relevant staff or department taking a pro-active role in the management of any such cases. To provide clinical support to the wards as required and advised by the CSM / Lead Nurses for CSM team.
To advocate the utilisation of discharge lounge on a daily basis with the ward team
