POST – MOBILE HGV TECHNICIAN
RESPONSIBLE TO – Workshop/Control Room – Manager & Directors
JOB SUMMARY
To manage the repair and maintenance of vehicles, fixtures, and equipment on estates owned or rented by the business. To carry out on-site repairs and maintenance work on vehicles owned by various customers.
Basic Hours – Monday to Friday (40 hours)
Overtime – Paid at basic rate
Pay Schedule – £21.00 to £23.00 per hour
Callouts – £40.00 per call plus hours worked
Holiday – 21 days plus bank holidays
DESCRIPTION
The business operates from several facilities across Cambridgeshire, Thrapston, Tamworth, and Crewe, primarily within the agricultural and haulage industries.
The Technician will work closely with the Workshop Manager and other team members to ensure all jobs are completed to a high standard and within required timeframes.
MAJOR TASKS

On-site servicing and repairs to customer assets
*
Assisting with routine vehicle and trailer maintenance to meet VOSA standards
*
Diagnosing and rectifying all types of vehicle faults
*
Preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT inspections
*
Carrying out 6-weekly PMIs
*
Attending breakdowns on vehicles and trailers and completing temporary or permanent repairs as required
*
Preparing and decommissioning vehicles and trailers, including fitting and removing ancillary equipment, accessories, and livery
*
Ensuring upkeep of all plant, tools, property, and services required to fulfil tasks
*
Adhering to current health and safety legislation at all times and attending training or refresher courses when required
*
Taking verbal and written instructions
*
Cleaning down work areas
*
Working outdoors
*
Lifting items up to 20kg
*
Working at height
*
Minimising material wastage
*
Working at customer locations and/or the workshop when required
*
Liaising with the office regarding system updates and required maintenance costs/materials
*
Ensuring all documented repairs are submitted via the system (tablet) and closed daily
*
Maintaining clear communication to ensure customers and office staff are aligned with fleet operational status, utilisation, and VOR
*
Ensuring all PPE is worn prior to commencing work
*
Keeping the service van in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition and reporting any defects immediately to the office
*
Maintaining a high standard of communication with customers and office staff
*
Ensuring the service van is used strictly for business purposes
*
Ensuring all company equipment is maintained and kept clean
REQUIREMENTS
A full UK driving license is required. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in relevant training, including Health & Safety, First Aid, and maintenance-related upskilling. The role requires the ability to multitask and prioritise a busy workload with a thorough and methodical approach.
