Locum Consultant - Obstetrics & Gynaecology

We are looking for enthusiastic and enterprising candidates to join a progressive and forward-thinking department of 13 consultants, each with their own special interest. We have well-developed services in high-risk obstetrics, minimal access surgery, infertility, colposcopy & out-patient hysteroscopy, uro-gynaecology and oncology services.
This post is a locum position created to support the department while new substantive posts are being finalized. It is an ideal opportunity for individuals to work in the department prior to applying for a substantive post with us. The post will include both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The department is currently strengthening its Obstetric and Gynaecology leadership and specialist roles and is keen to consider applicants with a variety of interests.
The candidate should be keen to work as part of a team, continuing to develop good relationships with other staff within and outside the Clinical Management Team. The appointee will be expected to live within 30 minutes travelling time from the hospital.

In the last few years there has been considerable site development at Kettering General Hospital. In particular, a new theatre block for Obstetrics & Gynaecology was constructed and opened in February 2016.

The hospital has a state-of-the-art 16 bed ITU/HDU. There is a two bed Enhanced Care facility on Labour Ward where patients are managed with multidisciplinary input from obstetricians, anaesthetists, and physicians.
There are fully supporting Pathology and Radiology services. Radiology provides ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI and computerised axial tomography on site. There is a well-equipped obstetric ultrasound department in the Maternity Unit as well as a specialised Fetal Medicine Service provided by visiting Consultants from University Hospital of Leicester. There is excellent Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staffing including a highly skilled nurse specialist in Gynae-Oncology.
Job responsibilities
Clinical Commitment
Shifting of clinical commitment from junior doctors to nursing staff has been developed actively in Kettering to allow more time for training and adaptability as further changes are imposed on us by reduction of Junior Doctors hours. We have specialist nurses in Gynae Oncology, Infertility, Termination of Pregnancy and Prenatal Diagnosis who all contribute to running the department.
On-Call
This job will have weekend on call commitments (4-5 a year split weekends) and also gynaecology and obstetric rot weeks (8 in total approximate). The successful candidate will do a twilight and night (non-resident) on call twice a month.
The above on call hours will be 5pm in the evening to the following morning 8am. Of these hours, the consultant is required to be on site between 5-7pm and then is expected to be within 30 minutes of the hospital.
Daytime consultant labour ward cover is 8am to 6pm. On Mondays to Fridays the Night On call will start with hand-over at 5-6pm and be resident for one hour until 7pm. On call will finish at 8am next morning.

* Tuesday: 0900-1300 clinic (obs). PA = 0.62
* 1300-1800 weeks 2 and 8 Gynae operating list. PA = 0.2

* Thursday: SDEC 0900-1300. PA = 0.62
* Friday: 1000-1300 Basic SPA. PA = 0.71
* 1300-1700 SPA. PA = 0.84
* Flexible backfill gynae theatre lists. PA = 0.53
* Flexible CS list cover. PA = 0.75
* 1 in 13 consultant of the week Obstetrics
* 1 in 13 consultant of the week Gynaecology
* Total PA from hot weeks (including predictable weekend cover) 2.36
* 1 in 11 non-resident on call, weekdays covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* 1 in 11 non-resident on call, weekends covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* Unpredictable 1 PA (over weekdays and weekends)
* On call supplement Category A = 3%
* Total DCC = 8.5
* SPA = 1.5

Person Specification
Qualifications and skills
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
* Relevant CCT or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of the AAC)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
* ATSM in Special Interest Subject e.g. Labour Ward Lead
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Clinical exp & effectiveness
* Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
* ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice or Equivalent
* Interest in Clinical Audit and evidence of completed audits in CV
* Interest in Governance
* Ambulatory gynaecology
* Ultrasound Skills
* ATSM in Specialist Interest Subject Eg: Maternal medicine, High Risk Pregnancy, Obstetric Medicine
