Job Title: Senior Corrugated Packaging Designer
Objective: Our 4 patents have reduced ecom single-use plastics 70%. Help us invent more.[Using Lil’s S.U.R.F. process of design: Improved Sustainability, Unboxing Experience, Reduced Returns/shipping, Faster fulfilment]Reports to: CEO / National Business Development ManagerLocation: HQ / WFH (working from home) possible**if candidate possesses their own CAD plotting table & can store material to output/refine samples at home. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Design Parametrics (CAD standards) of key products such that co-ordinators can adjust size/material.
2. QC/Technical shared responsibility (with CEO) in judgement of “fit for purpose” manufacture.
3. NPD Overall responsibility for approval & development of constructional design, material & artworks:You will typically take clients through a 6 step approval process upon BDM ‘agreement in principal’ : i. Create optimal CAD drawing and liaise with technical co-ordinator to output in proposed material. ii. Improve/validate to ensure fit for purpose on proposed material and/or recommend upgrades. iii. Follow‑up samples for approval or gain first‑hand understanding of client modifications. iv. upon sample approval, issue Lil legend keyline with Lil environmental lock‑ups for client to overlay. v. Follow‑up artworks for approval or gain first‑hand understanding of client modifications. vi. Maximise profitability by means of efficient manufacturing laydowns within machine limitations.
4. Proficient in the use of CAD & design software; Lil currently use: IMPACT, Illustrator, Photoshop.
5. Corrugated technical expertise to ensure of best suited material & design to avoid damage in transit.
6. Deckle Optimisation for special makings.
7. Drop‑testing (eg. ISTA3a) and awareness of ECT/BCT properties to overcome.
8. Supervise Commercial‑Technical Specialist & re‑organise inefficiencies in CAD dept and approval processes.
9. Ease of Manufacture – Liaising with factory to ensure speed, efficiency & smooth running of production.
10. CAD excellence. Ensuring CAD team provides excellent experiences to best represent the Lil brand.
11. Enhance Lil branded lock‑up on an ongoing basis eg. FSC/Recy/Sustainability logos.
12. Ongoing product & Process improvement.
13. Support Sales team to close bespoke opportunities with values ranging £5,000 - £1,000,000.
14. Attend meetings online (rarely on‑site but encouraged) supported by Outlook/Zoom/Teams/Calendly.
15. Log project efficiently (max 100 characters) ensuring CRM (SPOCS) well‑maintained.
16. Encourage design team attend Exhibitions & relevant training to develop knowledge, techniques, and skills.
17. Adhere company policies & procedures related to Health & Safety, Quality & Management.

Person Specification
* Experience: Senior-level corrugated packaging design is essential, preferably to internet retailers.
* Advanced computer skills (IMPACT, Adobe, CAD Parametrics, MS Office, SPOCS MIS)
* Common desire to eradicate single‑use plastics from ecommerce
* Highly motivated and able to work effectively under own initiative.
* Confident in liasing with company Owners/Directors and prestigious blue chip companies.
* Ability to challenge / persuade prospect if design hurdles need overcoming.
* Excellent commercial acumen
* Superb telephone manner & communication skills (eg. Linkedin / Zoom / teams)
* Quick thinker with very strong interpersonal skills.
* Team Player with positive mindset & care of their work, clients & colleagues.
* Confident and able to engage with internal and external stakeholders.

Specific Job Skills
* The position holder must have a deep knowledge of a wide range of packaging design techniques and concepts - ideally in the ecommerce packaging sector. An ability to think creatively, to take the initiative and to inspire clients is also required.
* Advanced CAD skills (IMPACT ideally) required.
* Adobe/Mac design skills preferred for pre‑press tweaks (not expected to be a graphic designer).
* Excellent IT, communication & reporting skills.
Literacy and Numeracy
* Educated to a minimum standard of 5 GCSEs grade A‑C (or equivalent), preferably with a good level of numeracy.
* Must be a very competent writer of communications.
