Stockport Foundation Trust is one of four ‘specialist’ hospital sites in Greater Manchester. Being a ‘specialist’ hospital will enhance our general surgery, anaesthetics, critical care and emergency medicine for the benefit of people in Stockport, High Peak, Cheshire and across Greater Manchester.

Job overview

Job Summary:

The post holder will be competent, confident and adaptable to the needs of our service users responding to each person’s unique health needs to promote safer and more personalised care.

The post holder is required to support the Community Midwife team to help implement, monitor, and maintain a safe and quality assured failsafe process for screening tests. The purpose is to carry out failsafe activities that ensure that screening test results are chased and fed back in a timely manner.

Data for national standards would be required to be kept thus helping to track and thus minimise the risk of harm by missed test results to mothers and babies for which Stockport NHS Trust are responsible.


Main duties of the job

* Maintenance of an accurate community screening tests database
* Provision of accurate statistical information.
* Provide administrative support to the Community midwifery team including photocopying, filing, faxing, scanning and other routine office tasks.
* Liaise closely with the Community Midwives, wards, ANC and Triage, paediatricians, Obstetricians, Laboratory services and Ultrasound department to help ensure the smooth running of the service.
* Answer telephone enquiries, refer issues to other members of the business group as appropriate and act as the main point of contact in relation to issues/updates for the Community Failsafe system.
* Liaise as appropriate with external service providers.
* Provide data to the Community team leads and Community Matro as required.
* Provide a daily analysis of breaches of Failsafe Systems and to action them appropriately and alert line manager when users of the service are adversely affected.
* Attend MDT meetings regarding patients care and any regional/national update meetings.
* Maintain a flexible approach to the post in order to rapidly assimilate changes in workload, patterns and requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.


Person specification


Education & Qualifications

* • Good Standard of general education
* • Functional skills minimum Level 2 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent or working towards
* • NVQ3 in IT or equivalent qualifications or experience.


Knowledge

* • Knowledge of the community services and Failsafe procedures
* • Knowledge of NHS hospital administrative systems e.g. PAS, EK, patient centre etc or willingness to learn
* • Experience and understanding of Data Protection
* • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
* • Understanding of Medical terminology


Experience

* • Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
* • Comprehensive experience of using work processing and data analysis software packages i.e. Microsoft Excel, Database, Word and Outlook.
* • Previous experience of providing administrative support within the NHS or care setting.
* • Experience of dealing with members of the public.
* • Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* • Experience of operating in a busy office environment.
* • Experience of note taking and producing minutes of meetings.
* • Experience of Audits.


Skills & Abilities

* • Excellent numeracy, literacy and verbal communication skills.
* • Analytical and judgemental skills for problem solving within own sphere of work. Able to uses initiative appropriately.
* • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise and achieve deadlines and ability to work effectively under pressure.
* • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy with patients and be able to understand their needs and respond with tact and sensitivity.
* • Ability to monitor quality of work in own area and alert others to quality issues, reporting any errors or issues to the appropriate person.
* • Able to follow policies and procedures


Work Related Circumstances

* • Able to cover the service 5 days a week with flexibility to meet service needs
* • Occupational Health Clearance and Able to apply physical effort e.g. lifting and handling.
* • Right to work in the UK
* • UK driving licence and use of a car for work
