Overview
As a qualified EMHP/CWP you will be joining a diverse team offering both clinical and non-clinical support to children, young people, and their families across Swindon. You will deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions for children and young people in educational settings with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, under expert supervision and as part of a dynamic mental health support team. You will work in partnership with school/college mental health leads by developing a Whole School and College Approach to mental health within your allocated schools.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with other EMHPs, CWPs and mental health professionals to deliver 1:1 interventions, groups, parent-led interventions, workshops and staff training.
* Assess and deliver outcome-focused, low-intensity, evidence-based interventions in educational settings for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, in collaboration with the education function of the setting.
* Help children and young people access more specialist services by engaging with senior staff to signpost referrals as needed.
* Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings related to referrals or treatment.
Training, Supervision and Professional Development
* Continue applying learning from training to practice and present caseload information to supervisors on a scheduled basis to ensure safe practice and governance.
* Respond to supervision feedback and engage in personal development supervision to enhance competences.
* Disseminate research and service evaluation findings through agreed channels.
* Maintain professional practice standards, confidentiality, and adherence to relevant guidelines and policies.
Job Description – Therapeutic Assessment and Intervention
* Support children, young people, families and educators in the self-management of presenting difficulties with mild to moderate mental health issues.
* Develop intervention plans and agreed outcomes in partnership with the child, family and educators.
* Empower stakeholders to make informed choices about interventions, operating from an inclusive values base that respects diversity.
* Accept referrals within educational settings according to local and national protocols; conduct risk assessments and follow safeguarding procedures.
* Record clear, professional documentation and manage risk in line with local procedures and safeguarding guidance.
* Assist referrals of more complex cases to appropriate services and escalate when needed.
* Provide information and support for evidence-based psychological treatments (primarily guided self-help).
* Manage own caseload in coordination with the team, and participate in relevant meetings.
* Contribute to development of clinical materials and training materials under supervision where appropriate.
Qualifications
* Essential: Qualification from CYP Educational Mental Health Practitioners Course (EMHP) – Post Graduate Diploma/Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice in Education Settings.
* Desirable: A further relevant degree; Youth Mental Health First Aid trained.
Experience
* Essential: Experience with anxiety disorders; experience with mood disorders; delivery of therapeutic interventions to children/young people or families (e.g., CBT, solution-focused brief therapy); experience in education settings and liaising with agencies; experience in healthcare settings; experience monitoring and recording outcome measures.
* Desirable: Experience with looked after children; experience with other vulnerable groups.
Skills and Knowledge
* Knowledge of educational environments and child development/mental health; safeguarding expertise.
* Ability to conduct 1:1 and group therapeutic interventions with children and families; conduct mental health assessments; assess and manage risk; work within educational settings to raise mental health awareness; record-keeping and data collection.
* Capacity to work with a range of stakeholders and deliver group programs as part of a flexible, multi-agency approach.
Job Specific Requirements
* Ability to travel independently across the service footprint.
* Flexible work to meet service needs; willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
* Excellent oral and written communication, time management and organisational skills; ability to manage a sensitive and potentially distressing caseload.
