The Claims Handler will manage a caseload of EL/PL delegated authority fixed fee cases on behalf of a number of insurance clients, working with more experienced colleagues who set strategies and make liability decisions, and responsible for their technical development. A forensic and analytical approach is required, with experience or appreciation of the documents and evidence typically involved in these cases.
The work may include pre-action disclosure files, infant approval hearings and EL/PL files handled on a delegated authority basis. The Assistant File Handler will support File Handlers on tasks within their caseloads.
Responsibilities
* Consider and respond to applications for pre-action disclosure
* Handle matters in accordance with client SLAs
* Instruct counsel/advocate
* Review evidence
* Conduct legal research
* Negotiate and draft payments into court
* Handle routine correspondence
* Initial review and setting strategy for the management of the claim
* Review matters throughout the case
* CRU and disclosure duties
* Review evidence (including medical and personnel records)
* Conduct investigations with insureds and obtain witness statements
* Liaise with insured parties, claimant solicitors and witnesses
* Instruct counsel/experts
* Attend conferences and trials with counsel and take notes
* Review quantum and draft Tomlin Orders and consent orders
* Draft cost schedules and handle general queries
* Filing of Allocation Questionnaires and witness summons
* Ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations
Working hours
* 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch
* Primary location for this role is Parklands, Bolton Office

Essential

Desirable
* Previous personal injury file handling experience
* Legal education such as ILEX, LPC or equivalent
* Experience handling a caseload of EL/PL files
