Purpose of the Role

To manage safety-critical training and competency within Rail Services. Responsible to the senior freight trainer assessor for ensuring effective implementation of railway group standards and industry codes of practice, including strategies and policies significant to the safe operation of all freight. This also includes freight equipment owned by third parties and operated under contract.

Responsible for assisting in maintaining the integrity of Colas Rail's ROG compliance. Implement and manage training and competency assessment regimes, including risk management and safety performance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure effective systems are in place to manage freight and artisan competencies.
2. Coordinate training and re-certification of artisans and freight drivers.
3. Maintain the staff competency database.
4. Develop training and assessment documentation.
5. Assist with technical, safety, & incident investigations as required.
6. Analyze, forecast, plan, and monitor the competency management system.
7. Attend meetings as required by business needs.
8. Lead and participate in safety meetings as required.
9. Ensure compliance with all company standards and procedures.
10. Adapt to organizational changes and meet operational requirements.
11. Perform any other reasonable duties as required.

Person Specification

1. Extensive experience in railway operations with excellent knowledge of freight operations.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of rail industry standards related to freight, including operational safety and health & safety legislation.
3. Holder of Trainer and Assessor qualifications.
4. Willingness to undertake further training as required.
5. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
6. Proficient IT skills with experience in administration and organization.
7. Hold a UK driving license.
